Duct cleaning is often overlooked as part of maintaining a healthy home or business. We spend countless hours making sure our bathrooms are cleaned, floors mopped, carpets vacuumed and furniture dusted, but what about a major component of our HVAC system?

Duct systems that aren't properly installed or maintained may become contaminated with mold, dust, pollen or other debris, potentially spreading them throughout your house or office whenever your system runs.

We recommend a thorough duct system inspection every few years to ensure your system is operating safely and efficiently. Failure to have your system cleaned by a qualified service provider such as Atlantic Heating & Cooling can result in hazardous air and HVAC system contamination.  Call us today for more information and a free duct cleaning estimate.

AIR QUALITY TESTING

air quality testing

WHAT IS INDOOR AIR QUALITY?

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency...

"Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns. Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later."

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF POOR INDOOR AIR QUALITY?

The EPA references both immediate and long-term effects...

IMMEDIATE EFFECTS

A person may have one or more of these symptoms shortly after a single or repeated exposure to a pollutant:

  • Irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat

  • Headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Fatigue

These effects are usually short term and treatable. Sometimes the treatment is simply eliminating the person's exposure to the source of the pollution, if it can be identified. Soon after exposure to some indoor air pollutants, symptoms of some diseases such as asthma may show up, be aggravated or worsened.

LONG-TERM EFFECTS

The following health effects may show up either years after exposure has occurred or only after long or repeated periods of exposure and can be fatal:

  • Some respiratory diseases

  • Heart disease

  • Cancer

AIR QUALITY TESTING

Air quality testing can determine the hidden hazards in your home or office. Our indoor air quality experts will take air samples of your residence or business, along with a control sample of the outdoor air to compare during lab analysis, and then present you with a detailed report of our findings.

Atlantic Heating & Cooling is proud to offer you the most revolutionary state-of-the-art indoor air quality products. Call today and ask how we can help keep your indoor air healthy.

Our indoor air quality testing is in compliance with the EPA's standards.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF MOLD IN YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS?

Mold plays an important role in breaking down and devouring dead organic materials outside, but have you considered what it can do on the inside of your home or office?

Mold is commonly found in areas with excessive moisture such as bathrooms, laundry rooms and uninsulated areas of your home or office. But it can occur anywhere indoors, especially in the Grand Strand's humid climate.

Health experts still don't know all the effects mold can have on your health, but the most common are:

  • Irritation of the eyes, nose or throat

  • Mysterious skin rashes

  • Sinus & respiratory infections

  • Headaches & fatigue

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Mood swings, anxiety or depression

  • Chronic aches and pains

  • Gastric distress

  • Putting our animals, infants, young children, elderly and pregnant women at risk.

  • Other high-risk individuals are those with severe allergies or asthma, other respiratory conditions and compromised immune systems.

OUR MOLD INSPECTION PROCESS:

  • Visual Inspection: We'll inspect your residence or business for moisture stains on ceilings, walls, floors, under counters, crawlspaces, attics and your HVAC system. Special equipment is used to inspect inaccessible areas.

  • Air Sampling: We'll take air samples throughout the problem areas of your home or office, along with a control sample of the outdoor air to compare during lab analysis. Mold is always present, but problems arise when the levels inside are greater than the outside levels.

  • Tape and Swab Sampling: If we discover mold, we'll obtain direct samples. We use either a swab or a carpet strip depending on where the mold is visible. A swab allows us to easily take samples from almost any surface. The carpet strip helps pull fiber and bacteria from the area. These samples are then overnighted to our laboratory for identification.

  • Lab Results Review: Once the types of mold and levels are confirmed, we will present you with a detailed report and explain the next steps in the mold remediation process. Mold is scary, but we're here to answer any and all questions you may have.

If you suspect mold in your home or office, call us today and speak to a qualified mold remediation specialist.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT LURKS BENEATH YOUR HOME?

What lies inside your dark, damp, humid crawlspace would shock and amaze you. And if you knew that you were breathing air from your crawlspace, you’d be terrified.

Crawlspaces are home to mold, insects, small wildlife and fungi. The natural airflow of a house is from bottom to top. That means the air from your mold-infested crawlspace seeps up into your home where you live, sleep, eat, and breathe.

PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH DIRTY CRAWLSPACES ARE:

  • Mold & mildew growth

  • Radon gas

  • Structural damage from high humidity levels & insects

  • Small wildlife damaging your HVAC system

Atlantic Heating & Cooling's crawlspace encapsulation process begins with cleaning and leveling your crawlspace floor. If necessary, we'll install a drainage system to ensure that your crawlspace drains water out instead of in. Then we'll use a 15mil material that's thick enough for crawling and carrying large objects across without damage. When completed, your crawlspace will be transformed from a dark, dingy cave to a clean, dry storage area. You’ll breathe cleaner air and have the peace of mind of knowing you're living above a safer environment.

If you're concerned about your crawlspace, call us for a thorough inspection today.

After the water extraction, we'll thoroughly dry the affected areas along with your items and then move them back into your home or business. We know how important your belongings are to you, and we'll take the utmost care to preserve and protect them.
